The Antikythera Mechanism

The antikythera mechanism is currently housed in the Greek National Archaeological Museum in Athens and is thought to be one of the most complicated antiques in existence. At the beginning of the 20th century, divers off the island of Antikythera came across this clocklike mechanism, which is thought to be at least 2,000 years old, in the wreckage of a cargo ship. The device was very thin and made of bronze. It was mounted in a wooden frame and had more than 2,000 characters inscribed all over it. Though nearly 95 percent of these have been deciphered by experts, there as not been a publication of the full text of the inscription.

Dropa Stones

The Dropa stones, otherwise known as the Dzopa stones, Dropas stones or Drop-ka stones, are said by some ufologists and pseudoarchaeologists to be a series of at least 716 circular stone discs, dating back 12,000 years, on which tiny hieroglyph-like markings may be found. Each disc is claimed to measure up to 1 foot (30 cm) in diameter and carry two grooves, originating from a hole in their center, in the form of a double spiral. The hieroglyph-like markings are said to be found in these grooves.
For twenty years the Dropa stones were said to have sat in storage before they were given to Tsum Um Nui for study in 1958. It is said the he came to the conclusion that the grooves on the discs were actually very tiny hieroglyphs, none of which were of a pattern that had been seen before, and which can only be seen with the use of a magnifying glass. By 1962, he had allegedly deciphered them into a story that told of a spacecraft that crashed landed in the area of the cave, the Bayan Har Shan region and that the ship contained the Dropa people who could not fix it and therefore had to adapt to Earth. Further, his research claims that the Dropa people were hunted down and killed by the local Ham tribesmen for a period. Tsum Um Nui noted specifically that one glyph apparently said "The Dropa came down from the clouds in their aircraft. Our men, women and children hid in the caves ten times before sunrise. When at last they understood the sign language of the Dropas, they realized that the newcomers had peaceful intentions"
Russian researchers requested the discs for studying, and allegedly several were shipped to Moscow. Once there, it is said that they were scraped for loose particles and put through a chemical analysis which revealed that they contained large amounts of cobalt and other metallic substances. As recorded in the Soviet magazine Sputnik, Dr. Vyatcheslav Saizev describes an expriment where the discs were supposedly placed on a special turntable whereby they were shown to 'vibrate' or 'hum' in an unusual rhythm as though an electric charge is passing through them.

The Grooved Spheres

Over the last few decades, miners in South Africa have been digging up mysterious metal spheres. Origin unknown, these spheres measure approximately an inch or so in diameter, and some are etched with three parallel grooves running around the equator. Two types of spheres have been found: one is composed of a solid bluish metal with flecks of white; the other is hollowed out and filled with a spongy white substance. The kicker is that the rock in which they where found is Precambrian – and dated to 2.8 billion years old! Who made them and for what purpose is unknown.

Yeti of the Himalayas

A lot of people have ever witnessed mysterious Yeti in the north of the Himalayas, Tibet area of China. 2 villagers reported to Chinese frontier guards in December of 1972: Two strange monsters that can walk upright often stole their cattle and sheep. Several frontier guards went to look for the two strange monsters. They found the two strange monsters in the north of the Himalayas. The soldiers shot and injured a monster at that time, another monster escaped. Unexpectedly the injured monster lifting one big stone which weigh more than 150 kilograms rushed towards soldiers, but fell down after running several steps.
The soldiers described: the strange monster looked like ape; the top of the head was sharp; had brown hair all over; mouth was big; teeth were sharp; the forelimb was very long, had no tail. However, because of the limitations of the traffic and communication condition at that time, this monster’s corpse which may be Yeti was abandoned.
A doctor once saw a brown monster chased a herd of wild asses in Tibet in October of 1985. The speed of wild ass can reach 50 kilometers per hour. However, unexpectedly a wild ass falling behind was caught by the monster. The experts think this monster may be a Yeti.
The locals believe that there is existence of Yeti in the Himalayas. It is said the Yeti has tall and big body; strength is great and surprising, dare to fight with grizzly bear. Because has never caught the real Yeti, it is a mystery all the time.

Jenglot, mysterious creatures of Indonesia

Jenglot, mysterious creatures of Indonesia is a strange phenomenon began to spread in the community in 1997an year. Jenglot is an object / creature (I am puzzled to determine whether the object or creature) is a small human form with a body no more than 12 cm and long hair, sparse and stiff through the legs, and her nails long.
Jenglot believed to society is as a person who has the magic of science in the past (maybe a hermit so) who died, but was rejected by the earth, so that his body was not destroyed but shrinks to a shape like jenglot. Means believed that "jenglot it used to be a man" ...
If examined from a scientific aspect, it is clear there can be no such phenomenon. The human body would decompose if buried in the ground.
Even more strangely again, usually jenglot appear suddenly or at the time of the sakti (shaman) to high-level mystical rituals.
Then according to the sacred, jenglot must be fed blood, one drop of blood each period (how many weeks / days, I am less tau). Uniquely, every time jenglot not given appropriate conditions of blood there would be a misfortune that had befallen the people around.

After the the scientific examination results were declared jenglot no bone structure. Results rontgent witnessed dozens of journalists, medics, student practice, it only shows the form of a buffer-like structure from head to body. Also visible is also a network of four nails and no teeth remaining.

Cash Landrum UFO Incident

The Cash-Landrum is one of the most notorious close-encouter UFO incidents ever reported. During one late December evening, in 1980, a car filled with 3 people was driving home on a narrow country road. Occuring near Huffman, Texas.
In interviews following the incident, the occupants of the car described an elongated diamond-shaped object hovering above a thicket of trees. The object appeared unsteady, and periodically expelled flames from its base. The heat generated from the alleged craft was immense, and was reported intense enough to cause the metal body of the car to become excruicatingly hot to the touch.
Betty Cash, then 51 years old, was a small business owner near Huffman, Texas. Her passenger, Vickie Landrum, was 57 years old and enjoying a night out with her employer and grandson. The narrow country road, only occasionally used by locals, was almost completely blocked by the diamond-shaped craft. Betty allegedly stopped the car ony 50 yards from the object, and the three occupants of the car got out to get a better look at the object blocking their path. After less than 5 minutes of staring intently at the object, VIckie and the young man Colby got back into the car, and begged for Betty to do the same. When Betty tried to open the car door, her hand was severely burned from touching the hot metal of the door handle.
Shortly after getting back into the car, the three astonished onlookers witnessed a number of helicopters swiflty approach the object from all directions. Just as the helicopters managed to fully surround the object, the object rapidly moved behind the cover of the treeline. Betty drove the car futher along the road until it joined a major highway, at which point they turned away from the brightly lit craft and its pursuers and drove home. Other motorists and residents of the area also reported seeing the object, though few were close enough to describe the object in detail.
In the hours following the incident, the occupants of the car began experiencing symptoms which seemed to mimic the effects of a severe sunburn. Their skin reddened significantly, and blisters and boils began to erupt from their hands, arms, and face. Betty, in particular, suffered extreme symptoms, and three days following the incident she was rushed to the hospital, unconscious. Betty Cash, the driver of the car, also began experiencing severe hair loss. Cash's doctor, Dr. Brian McClelland, officiall described the symptoms as being similar to severe radiation poisoning. There exist photographs of the injuries inflicted by the heat and/or radiation emitted from the unidentified craft, and those photos show both the burns and the extreme hair loss inflicted on the occupants of the car.
The occupants of the car attempted to contact military officials and air traffic control to get more information about the unidentified craft, as well as the military helicopters which were also reported in the area. There has been no official confirmation that the incident occurred, and reports of inadequate radar coverage of the area was reported by the FAA and air traffic control in the Houston area on the night in question. The occupants of the car sued the United States Government for their injuries and suffering, believing that the craft they witnessed was part of a secret military project. The case was dismissed in 1986, owing to the military's unwillingness to admit that such a craft existed in their arsenal. The case was dismissed on the grounds that "no such object was owned, operated, or in the inventory of the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force or NASA.

The Curse of the Hexham Heads

The discovery of two hewn stoneheads in a garden in Hexham seemed to worth no particular attention at the beginning. But then a nightmare began because the heads were probably the reason for paranormal phenomena and caused the frightful appearance of a werewolf-man.

Hexham is a borough in the valley of the Tyne, 32 kilometers far from Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Here, one afternoon in February 1972, the 11 year old Colin Robson weeded the garden behind the house of his parents. In doing so, he found a round stone in the size of a tennis ball with a mysterious lead on one side. When he removed the earth, he discovered rough carven human traits on the stone; the lead was actually the throat.
Full of joy he called his younger brother Leslie to come. Together, the both boys continued to search and soon Leslie found a second head.

The stones, which were called the Hexham-heads, represent two different types. The first was similar to a skull and seemed to bear male traits; it was called “boy”. The stone was of a greenish grey and glittered with quartz crystals. It was very heavy, heavier than cement or concrete. The hair seemed to run in stripes from front to back. The other head, the “girl” was similar to a witch. It had wild pop-eyes and the hair was tied back to some knot. In the hair, traces of yellow and red colour could be found.

After they have dug up the heads, the boys took them into the house. Thereby, the whole disaster commenced. The heads turned round without reason, objects broke to pieces without evident cause. When the mattress of one of the two daughters of the Robsons was dotted with broken glass, the girls moved out of the room. In the meantime, a mysterious flower bloomed at Christmas exactly on that spot, where the heads were found. Besides, a strange light was glowing there.

It could be stated that the events at the Robsons have nothing to do with the appearance of the heads but deals with poltergeist-phenomena, which has been evoked by the adolescent children of the Robsons. Nevertheless, the neighbour of the Robsons, Ellen Dodd, had such a frightful experience, that cannot be explained easily. Later on, Mrs. Dodd said a being on all fours had carefully touched her at the legs. It has been half man, half sheep. Mrs. Robson remembered that in the same night she has heard a cracking sound and screams next door. Her neighbours told her that those sounds derived from a being that looked like a werewolf.
Dr. Anne Ross, a significant expert of the Celtic culture, stated that the heads would be approximately 1800 years old and were originally used during Celtic head-rituals. The apparitions stopped after the heads has left the house.

In 1972, the story took a new turn, when truck driver Desmond Craigie stated that the “Celtic” heads were only 16 years old and that he has manufactured them as toys for his daughter Nancy. Astonishingly, the age of the heads could not be determined even with the help of a scientific analysis.

When the heads really stem from the Celtic epoch, it can be easily imagined that an ancient curse weighs on them. But when they are not old, how can it be explained that they evoke paranormal phenomena? It exists a theory that mineral art products can store visual pictures of humans from which they have been created. It is supposed that localities and objects can take up information that can cause particular phenomena. The scientist Dr. Robins was also interested in the reports about the sounds that are said to have been occured in connection with the heads. He pointed to a parallel of a being from the ancient Nordic mythology, the “Wulver”. He was powerful and dangerous but benevolent towards human people as long as they did not provoke him. Dr. Robins was so fascinated by the heads that he intended to take them home with him. When he laid them in his car to drive home and turned the ignition key, all electronical appliances on the dashboard failed. He took a look at the heads and commanded them: “Stop with that!” – and the car started.

The present whereabouts of the Hexham-heads are not known. But it cannot be doubted that they really caused the phenomena which are similar to those that are usually attributed to poltergeists. They functioned in some form as a trigger. But why? This leads to the question of their age. Are they of Celtic origin as Dr. Ross has stated or have they been recently manufactured in 1956 by a Hexham-inhabitant for his daughter? The theory of Dr. Robins says: When an object is in the position to cause poltergeist-phenomena, so it does not depend on who has manufactured it but “where” it had been manufactured.

Mystic girl of Gwrych Castle

A company boss Kevin Horkin was taken pictures at Gwrych Castle in Abergele, North Wales and may have captured a picture of a spirit.
Kevin didn’t notice anything unusual until he downloaded the pictures to his PC. In one of the photos was the image of a pale young woman looking out a window.
Amazingly, it’s impossible for anyone to stand at that particular window because the floor in the room is completely destroyed.
North Wales Paranormal group have confirmed that many sightings have been recorded at the castle.
Local history claims that the first castle at Gwrych was built by the Normans in the 12th century. It was seized by the Welsh prince Rhys ap Gruffydd (the Lord Rhys) of Deheubarth in about 1170 who then rebuilt the timber castle in stone. This castle was later destroyed by Cromwell’s army following the English Civil War of the mid-17th century.
The later castle at Gwrych was begun in 1819. The castle is a Grade 1 listed building set in a wooded hillside overlooking the Irish Sea.
It was the first Gothic folly to be built in Europe by a wealthy industrialist Lloyd Hesketh. Bamford Hesketh, his son, inherited the title of Gwrych in his early 20s and used his vast fortune to build the 4,000-acre Gwrych Castle Estate.
The castle once had a total of 128 rooms including the outbuildings, including twenty-eight bedrooms, an outer hall, an inner hall, two smoke rooms, a dining room, a drawing room, a billiards room, an oak study, and a range of accommodations for servants.
There are nineteen embattled towers and the whole facade is over 2000 yards. Many feel the castle’s outstanding feature was the castle’s 52-step marble staircase.

Queen Victoria stayed at Gwrych in 1932 in what is now known as the Victoria bedroom. These rooms are situated in the front of the castle in the round tower on the first floor, with two windows overlooking the Irish Sea.
In 1946 The castle was sold and then it passed through subsequent owners and is now derelict. All of the windows are cast iron and the fantastic stained glass has vanished. It's been years since the castle's been occupied. Years ago they used to hold medieval fairs and the like on the grounds of the castle.
The castle was bought several years ago by an American businessman who planned to spend 10 million pounds to convert the castle into a top-class opera house with adjoining luxury hotel. But those plans never materialized and the building was frequently vandalized. Unfortunately, in early 1998 Gwrych was extensively damaged following the collapse of ceilings and floors, and was later damaged by fire.

Afghanistan’s Hidden Treasures

Back in 1979, Soviet archaeologists digging in Afghanistan stumbled upon more than 20,000 gold coins and artifacts from over 2,000 years ago. Experts believe that they belonged to the Silk Road culture of Bactria, an important culture in Afghan history. The ancient treasure was hidden away in a secret chamber, inside of locked boxes, during the next 20 years for safe-keeping. Nobody knew about the treasure, and many thought that it was actually stolen during conflicts in Afghanistan during that time period. Finally, these secret locked boxes were cut open, and the treasure was again revealed in 2004. Keeping this treasure a secret was very important because the Taliban had looted and stolen 80% of Afghanistan’s treasure in 1996, but they never knew of the Bactria treasure that was hidden away in 6 large locked boxes. This treasure is now being stored in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Centralia, PA The Mouth Of Hell

Practically from the time we are born, we develop a picture in our minds of the american dream. In general, to achieve that dream, we find the ideal job, get married, buy a home, and start a family. We live our lives from day to day with the hope of building a bright future.
now imagine that everything that you have worked so hard to accomplish went literally up in smoke. as tragic as this may sound, in 1962 the town of Centralia, located in Columbia County Pennsylvania, had that nightmare become a reality, but on a much larger scale. An abandoned strip mine was accidently set on fire, igniting a nearby vein of anthracite coal. From water and fly ash, to back filling and drilling, every idea tempted to put out the fire would have the same results. It would flair up again in a different locatation making it impossible to control.
Government showed little concern in extinguishing the flames until 1981, when a 12 year old boy had a sink hole swallow him right out from under his feet, while playing in his own back yard. Fortunately for him, he was not alone at the time and was rescued by a visiting cousin.
In 1983, a research study done by engineers, showed that the only way to put out the fire for good is to escavate and dig up the entire vein. At a cost of 600 million dollars, the federal government chose to relocate the villagers at a much lower cost. Many people felt that this was merely a ploy to acquire mineral rights for the coal. They decided to take their chances in court and fight the decision, but to no avail. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania claimed eminant domain, condemning house after house, stating that it was due to toxic gases, sink holes and the eminent danger that exists. Not only did the residents have the government to deal with, but the post office revoked their zipcode as well.
47 years and 40 million dollars later, there are only 9 buildings left with 8 people remaining, in a town that was once the home of over 2000 people. It is hard to say whether or not the many attempts to put out the fire would have been more successful, had the government gotten involved sooner, but if you ask any of the former residents. they would surely have appreciated it if somebody would have at least tried.
Anthracite is one of the most pure types of coal in existance. Because of this, it burns very hot making it the perfect source for the steel industry. The study also revealed that because of that reason, the fire could spread to 3700 acres and could stay ignited for 250 years or more.
Appropriately nicknamed the mouth of hell, Centralia virtually is no more. Route 61 is now detoured through the neighboring town of Ashland. What is to become of the towns and villages that surround Centralia? Will they too suffer the same fate? Will Route 61 once again be rerouted through another town because Ashland is in the path of distruction? Is it not worth millions to dig up a vein of coal that has a value of billions to save these communities? Maybe the fears of the residents were right, maybe it is about obtaining mineral rights after all. Only time will tell.
